The Famous Canterbury Earthquake

For those of you who are wondering how we are in Christchurch following our famous September 4th earthquake, we want to tell you that we are having the most amazing Spring and the city is really beautiful..

Most of our students stayed sleeping in their beds throughout the shaking and continue to not be at all worried by the after-shocks.  Some old buildings were damaged, and some areas of town had the sandy soil under their homes become unstable.  Most of the city buildings have been built with earthquakes in mind, so structurally they are very strong and this is why we have been safe and no one has been badly injured and no one has died.  So 2 months on we are very grateful and happy to say that life is going on here as normal.  Students are busy studying for exams and some have finished and returned to their home country already.  Bags are being packed and sad farewell parties are being held. Most students will return again next year, all are committed to completing their studies well.

We have had a busy October with new students and the New Year is very busy so don’t be discouraged – all is well here and we look forward to a mild summer here in Christchurch.
