Homestay
Homestay Experience
All our hosts are carefully selected and supported when hosting a student through Student Links. The home stay experience should be a happy one for student and host family.
NZ hosts are encouraged to help student feel part of the family. During our interview process we meet everyone in the family and talk to them about sharing their home with an international student.
You will have your own room, with all that you need in it. Warm bed with linen, duvet and blankets and pillow provided. Your host also provides you with bath towels. You will have adequate storage of your personal things, a desk with lamp and in most homes internet access on your own computer.
Your host will provide all your meals, but when you have settled you will be taught how to make your own breakfast and lunch.
Depending on your age, your laundry will be done for you or you will be taught how to use the facilities yourself.
The host family option for accommodation is not a hostel (where you invite your friends over without permission) or a hotel (where everything is done for you) Most Kiwi homes have both parents working outside the home – so family members are expected to help a little around the home.
You will be given a small booklet on arrival ‘Guidelines to living in a NZ family’
